Blackfriars Theatre Summer Intensive (BTSI)
BTSI (pronounced Bitsy) was launched in the summer of 2016. The goal of the program is to provide professional level actor training to the next generation of artists. Focused on rising juniors in high school through newly graduated seniors in college, BTSI offers continued training for students who are interested in or are currently studying to pursue a career in the field.
BTSI offers students a 6-week program culminating in a musical theatre performance. Over the course of the program, students focus on ensemble building, actor training and performance process (acting, voice and dance). The BTSI program begins at the end of May and runs through the middle of July. Auditions are open to the public and typically take place around the mid-end of May.
While this program is primarily intended for performers, there may be opportunities available for student stage managers, assistant stage managers, stage crew and assistant designers. These opportunities are unpaid and do not include housing or other forms of reimbursement. Interested acting and technical candidates should email info@blackfriars.org for more information. Rehearsals take place five times a week, during the evenings on weekdays, and also on weekends. Student artists are not paid and the final schedule is developed around the final cast.
URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL
July 31 - August 9, 2026
Music by Mark Hollman | Book & Lyrics by Greg Kotis
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
