AS A TV SHOW: As Mrs. Kasha Davis says during Imagination Station events, we have to reach for our dreams, hold them in our hearts, and then work really hard to make them come true. Our team is currently hard at work to make our biggest dream come true… transforming our live theatrical events into a children’s television show! Working with our partner, Fish & Crown Creative, we filmed a four episode season of ISwMKD in August 2021 and now we’re currently in the process of shopping it to major networks and streaming services with the goal of spreading our message of love, kindness and authenticity to a global audience!
HOURGLASS PLAY READING SERIES
HOURGLASS PLAY READING SERIES
November 18th, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Maria Scipione
A moving drama, laced with humor and heartache, A Good Farmer is the story of two women—a farm owner and her unlikely best friend, an undocumented Mexican immigrant—fighting to survive in a small town divided by America’s immigration battle. A Good Farmer is a play about love, friendship and finding the power to face what divides us.
February 3rd, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Jason Rugg
This funny, trenchant, and powerful play follows an ambitious group of editorial assistants at a notorious Manhattan magazine, each of whom hopes for a starry life of letters and a book deal before they turn thirty. But when an ordinary humdrum workday becomes anything but, the stakes for who will get to tell their own story become higher than ever.
March 30th, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Ashley Garcell
NSFW draws us into the opposing worlds of two lifestyle magazines in 2012, where the culture of exploitation and invasion of privacy are overtly, and sometimes hilariously, deplorable. Set in the offices of Doghouse magazine, a men’s mag where the boys are behaving badly, and Electra, a women's mag where the girls are having a whale of a time, NSFW is a sharp, yet disturbing, comedy about power games, privacy, and the objectification of women in the age of Photoshop. This deliciously witty play ultimately leaves us questioning how much progress our culture has made since.
May 18th, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Kat Rina Davis
A poignant, transporting, and quietly subversive story of racial justice, political legacy, and family forgiveness. Janice’s childhood was steeped in her parents’ activism as they fought for the integration of public swimming pools in 1960s Kansas and taught scores of Black children to swim. But Janice later steps away from her parents’ politics and starts her own life and family far away—until she’s pressed into speaking at a ceremony honoring her father and forced to confront a reckoning with her political inheritance.
The Hourglass Play Reading Series productions are FREE with suggested donations accepted at the door. Reservations are strongly encouraged. For more information about the Hourglass Play Reading Series, email Hourglass@blackfriars.org.
