THE CONSERVATORY AT BLACKFRIARS THEATRE IS BACK!

The Conservatory at Blackfriars Theatre is committed to serving students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds; training the next generation of artists and theatre professionals; developing a new audience of theatre-goers; and being a leader in providing theatre-based programs that promote creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. Our goal is to allow our community to explore their artistic dreams.

For Winter 2024, we are offering 2 courses for adults (minimum age: 14—no exceptions). Classes are 60-90 minutes and run in 6-week sessions. Fall session runs Jan 13th - Feb 24th. See below for offerings!

HIPHOP FOR MUSICAL THEATRE with Jaden Kindle

Jan 13TH - FEB 24TH
Saturday mornings, 10 AM - 11 am

THIS IS A SIX-WEEK COURSE (no class Feb 3rd)

This hip-hop class will be all about having fun while exploring movement! This low-stakes class will focus on stylized movement, individual self-expression, and fun, high-energy choreography. All levels are welcome! No special shoes required--sneakers are great. See below for a peek at the numbers you'll be dancing to:

Legally Blonde: Positive
Heathers: Big Fun
Moulin Rouge: Backstage Romance
Hamilton: Yorktown

MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE with Brynn Tyszka

JAN 13TH - FEB 24TH
Saturday mornings, 11 AM - 12:30 PM

THIS IS A SIX-WEEK COURSE (no class Feb 3rd)

In musical theatre, your solos are your monologues … but singing a monologue and making it look natural and justified is an art form. In this class, we’ll explore various musical theatre styles while working on grounding, connecting the music to the emotions, releasing tension in your body, following your impulses, and unearthing hidden storytelling gems within the music. We’ll even touch on audition prep! Styles covered:

Ballads
Comedic/uptempo
Pop/Rock
Contemporary vs. Golden Age

*THIS CLASS WILL REQUIRE AT-HOME PREP BETWEEN CLASSES—STUDENTS MUST PREP ANY 32 BARS WITH A KARAOKE TRACK ACCOMPANIMENT FOR THE FIRST CLASS

Classes require a minimum of 4 students—subject to cancellation with a full refund

Please contact us at info@blackfriars.org with any questions you may have.

Sunday Salons
Join the conversation!

Following the first Sunday performance of every production we hold a talkback with the artists and actors of every show. Stick around after the 2 p.m. performance and share your thoughts, ask the actors questions, get a behind-the-scenes look with the directors and dig deeper into the Blackfriars Theatre process! Each Salon is unique to the specific production and lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. Everyone is welcome!

I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.
— Oscar Wilde
