DIVAS & DANCE: CHART-TOPPERS

THE AUDITION:

Seeking trained dancers with experience in one or more of the following: ballet, jazz, modern/contemporary, hip-hop, or tap.‍ ‍We are specifically looking for dancers who are excited to choreograph their own solos/duets/trios for this concert. We will begin by having each dancer perform their own piece—this dance cut should be no longer than one minute and should clearly display high-level dance ability; dancers may perform this portion alone or in duets/trios; choreography should display your training and your understanding of the music (whether it’s a joyous rock piece or a heartbreaking ballad, we want to see your emotional connection to it); 80s song choice a plus but not required. Dancers will perform in the order in which they arrive and sign in. We will then learn a short routine for all dancers to perform.

Character shoes, jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, ballet slippers, or lyrical shoes are appropriate. Please arrive with enough time to warm up & stretch before we begin. The theater will be open to artists at 9:30 a.m. to use the space to warm up. Please arrive no later than 10am.

Bring a headshot or up-to-date photo, your resume, and your calendar with you to list any conflicts with the rehearsal schedule.

THE PROCESS:
Rehearsals: sporadic rehearsals based on performer availability will take place starting in January (we will likely need no more than 6 rehearsals total). Final rehearsal schedule will be built around performer/team conflicts.
Final dress: Friday, Feb 13th 6-10pm (NO CONFLICTS)
Performances: Saturday, Feb 14th, 6pm & 8pm (NO CONFLICTS)

SYNOPSIS:
Divas & Dance will be a one-hour presentation of dance-based storytelling as part of our Blackfriars Theatre Concert Series. Dancers do not sing.

CASTING: Seeking 8-10 dancers of all genders/ethnicities/body types (aged 16+). We are specifically looking for dancers who are excited to choreograph their own solos/duets/trios. Must be highly-trained in at least one of the following styles: jazz, ballet, hip-hop, tap, or modern. Must be comfortable choreographing your own pieces. A $100 honorarium + high-res video for your reel will be offered to all dancers.

Blackfriars practices color-conscious and body-positive casting. There can be no conflicts during tech. If you are involved in another show that overlaps with any part of this process, please email us the conflicts at info@blackfriars.org prior to submitting for auditions. Auditions will take place at Blackfriars Theatre, 795 E Main St, Rochester 14605.

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS:
If you cannot make auditions and wish to submit a video audition, please email your submission to info@blackfriars.org no later than Friday, Dec 12th at 12:00 noon (late submissions will not be considered). Submissions should consist of TWO dance clips in varying styles and should clearly feature the auditioning dancer/s.
