YOU, TOO, CAN BE A PART OF THE SPELLING BEE!
Putnam County is in need of FOUR ADDITIONAL SPELLERS for each night of the spelling bee! If you would like to join the cast on stage and put your spelling to the test - we would love to have you. When you arrive at the theatre, there will be a sign up table to participate in the bee. No experience is necessary, no preparation is needed and you will be given all the tools necessary to succeed at that time. What’s required of you is very simple - just hop up to the mic, receive your word, and give it your best shot! You might just beat out every other speller to be the next Putnam County Spelling Bee champ! And if it doesn’t work out - you won’t leave empty handed. If you have questions beforehand, please contact the Box Office at 585.454.1260, Tuesday through Friday, 12-4 p.m.
THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
July 12-21, 2019
WHO ARE THE PLAYERS?
Conceived by Rebecca Feldman
Music & Lyrics by William Finn
Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Additional Materials by Jay Reiss
Directed by Danny Hoskins
Music Directed by Andy Pratt
Choreographed by Lani Toyama Hoskins
WHAT'S THE DEAL?
Tony Award- and Drama Desk Award-winner for best book of a Musical! Charles Isherwood, in his review of the Broadway production for The New York Times, wrote "William Finn's score sounds plumper and more rewarding than it did Off Broadway. If it occasionally suggests a Saturday morning television cartoon set to music by Stephen Sondheim, that's not inappropriate. And Mr. Finn's more wistful songs provide a nice sprinkling of sugar to complement the sass in Rachel Sheinkin's zinger-filled book.”
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
