CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: (casting 2 women and 7 men) Blackfriars practices color-blind casting. Seeking actors of all ethnicities and ages.
Arnold Wiggins (age 25-40): A nervous, depressive man with a strong case of obsessive compulsive disorder. He talks a mile-a-minute and can be as passionate as he can be cantankerous.
Norman Bulansky (age 25-40): Slightly overweight from his work at the donut shop, Norman has social and mental disabilities but is full of joy and is a ball of positive energy. He has a prized set of keys that he obsesses over.
Lucien P. Smith (age 35-60): An African-American man with a debilitating mental disorder – he has the emotional and mental capacity of a child.
Barry Klemper (age 28): He has schizophrenia and believes he is a pro-golfer. Barry had a traumatic childhood and finds himself overwhelmed by even the smallest things.
Jack Palmer (age 35-40): The social worker assigned to the Boys. At once, full of hope and compassion for the work and life he has, but now he is burned out and fighting an uphill battle to maintain his sanity and idealism for his present situation.
Sheila (age 25-35): Slightly overweight and also has a social and emotional disorder. She is Norman’s girlfriend and also obsesses over Norman’s keys.
Mr. Klemper (age 50-65): Barry’s abusive father.
Ensemble Woman (age 30-50; Mrs. Fremus / Mrs. Warren / Clara): Characters integral to the story and existence of the Boys.
Ensemble Man (age 30-50; Mr. Hedges / Mr. Corbin / Senator Clarke): Characters integral to the story and existence of the Boys.
